Meet the Porter & Co. Team

Our Distressed Debt Analysts

Porter & Co. is proud to host a cohort of world-class distressed investing experts with deep experience in credit analysis, institutional portfolio management, and investment strategy research. Our team has one goal: to help you safely profit from the Greatest Legal Transfer of Wealth in History.

Porter Stansberry

Founder of Porter & Co.

Porter Stansberry is a leading financial writer and founder of MarketWise, a multi-brand, financial publishing platform with over one million readers around the world.

After retiring as MarketWise's Chairman of the Board, Porter founded Porter & Co. with the goal of revolutionizing the financial publishing industry, and building a new type of firm.

In the past, Porter has developed and helmed several distressed investing publications, which delivered his readers outstanding returns and income with far less risk than equities.

For example, in the fallout of 2008, his team recommended around 50 different bond opportunities, 40 were profitable, with double-digit and triple-digit gains, including:

96% on First Industrial, 772% on Rite Aid Convertible, 70% on LifePoint, 75% on Ferro Corporation, 97% on First Industrial, 129% on Western Refining, and dozens of others.

Today, as part of Porter & Co., he is thrilled to shape and introduce the most accomplished distressed investing team in the U.S.

Martin Fridson

Director of Distressed Investing Research

Martin Fridson leads Porter & Co.’s Distressed Investing lineup, and there is no one better qualified.

Martin is “the most well-known figure in the high yield world,” according to Investment Dealers’ Digest.

Over a 25-year span with brokerage firms including Salomon Brothers, Morgan Stanley, and Merrill Lynch, he became known for his innovative work in credit analysis and investment strategy.

He has served as president of the Fixed Income Analysts Society, governor of the Association for Investment Management and Research (now the CFA Institute), and director of the New York Society of Security Analysts.

In 2000, he became the youngest person ever inducted into the Fixed Income Analysts Society Hall of Fame.

Martin is the author of six modern financial classics and editor of many more – with his latest, The Little Book of Picking Top Stocks, scheduled for publication in 2023.

The Green Magazine calls Martin’s Financial Statement Analysis “one of the most useful investment books ever.”

The Boston Globe said his book, Unwarranted Intrusions, should be short-listed for best business book of the decade. Since 1989, Martin has served as the book review editor for Financial Analysts Journal. His writing appears regularly on Forbes.com.

Andy Lipman

Senior Analyst

Andrew Lipman provides an invaluable boots-on-the ground perspective on distressed debt -- he has worked as a sell-side securities analyst, publishing research on distressed and story-intensive high yield credits.

He has spent much of his career as a portfolio manager focusing on troubled and bankrupt issuers, as well as post-reorganization equities.

Andrew graduated from Princeton University, Yale School of Management and Harvard Law School. He is a longtime trustee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC and resides in Manhattan and Southampton.

Kim Iskyan

Publisher, Porter & Co.

Kim Iskyan lends his research skills and global debt expertise to round out the Distressed Investing team.

Kim is a 30-year veteran of global stock markets and investing in distressed environments, and he brings broad international and emerging markets experience to the table.

Over the past decade he launched and managed an investment research publishing company from scratch in Singapore and served as a financial and investment analyst and writer with Stansberry Research.

Kim started his career on Wall Street in the mid 1990s with a focus on Latin American markets.

He later helped build stock markets in Armenia and the Kyrgyz Republic, was a research director for three investment banks in Russia, helped market fund management products in Ireland, ran a hedge fund focused on investing the former Soviet Union, and advised Fortune 100 companies on the political dynamics of investing.

Kim has lived in nine countries and ten U.S. states, and now calls Maryland home.
